Scandinavian Christmas Wreath

I love a Christmas wreath. And the Danish-designed Strups rings are perfect for those of us who appreciate a paired back minimalist approach to decorating at Christmas. Less is definitely more when decorating the rings. You can drape all kinds of foliage and flowers around the ring and create your own masterpiece. I love to use eucalyptus for my Christmas wreath not just because the leaves are seriously pretty but also for its gorgeous fragrant smell.

Minimalist Frames And Poster Hangers From Moebe

We say... If you love it hang it! Our favourite frames and wall clips come from the Copenhagen based Moebe. The creatives behind the brand are cabinetmaker Anders Thams, architects Nicholas Oldroyd and Martin D. Christensen. True masters in keeping design simple and functional.

A really simple and inspired design! Use the Pinch to hang and display any small pieces. The Pinch clips are also perfect for organising documents on your desk or as place settings at your next dinner party. Made from two pieces of solid oak - tied together with a rubber band this little clip really is clever!

The frame consists of two pieces of acrylic glass, four pieces of solid oak timber, black or white aluminium and a black silicon rubber band. The rubber band both holds the frame together and also serves for hanging the frame on your wall if desired.

Sometimes you just want your poster to speak for itself. Without compromising functionality, a metal rod and a rubber band lets you hang your large poster in the simplest way. Keeping it simple, yet still aesthetically pleasing is precisely what "Poster Hanger", is all about.

Just In From The Charming Mrs Mighetto

We are super excited finally to be selling the limited edition prints "The End Of The Forest". The collection is designed  by the Swedish duo Malin and Anna, the talent behind  "Mrs Mighetto". All the Mrs Mighetto posters  have got their own names and magical  personalities.  The posters are all made from original watercolour paintings and just gorgeous!

There are no shortcuts that will take you there. Nor is there any way back once you finally arrive. The Land in the Sky is the final destination. But only for the chosen few.

The story of this mythical land is well known throughout the forest. The story of what happens at the end of the forest. For millennia the entrance has been protected by seasoned, valiant guards, all of whom possess special gifts. It’s also watched over by the boy who never sleeps, by the roe deer who sees into the future and by the enormous creature who knows ways no one else knows.

Deep within the Land in the Sky, twelve islands float weightlessly. There, you’d do well to find a friend with wings to help you move between the different islands. Charlie lives on Green Sconce Island and knows the paths that run between springtime and winter. On the Isle of Knowledge you’ll meet Vera, who offers comfort when you’ve lost something or someone from the other side, while her soulmate Alice watches this world that seems to be the best-kept secret of all the ages.

The first sign that you’re heading in the right direction is the bright clearing. There you’ll find the roe deer, a steadfast companion to the birds of truth. There can be no doubt that the roe deer sees into the future. Though no more than a few minutes’ ahead. She gets a premonition of what question she should ask but never has time to give a warning in case the meeting might endanger the final destination.

Every year the quickest runner is entrusted with being the connection between the light and dark glade. Our young friend, equipped with four legs, wings and a quick-witted talent for making wise decisions, travels at the speed of light on the long and ever-changing path between the two gates.

No one even notices the dark glade unless you have a special invitation. For most passers-by it goes by unnoticed. But at the gate sits the gatekeeper and his pet. These two watch the clearing day and night, without a wink of sleep. There is no limit to the number of keys handed out to the chosen ones and once you hold the key in your hand, the tunnel opens up. Past the glade, through the tunnel, unlock the left hand door and you’ll reach the incomparable Land in the Sky.

The long tunnel ends in a large door with leaf-shaped handles of wrought iron. Just above the leaf is a painting with letters. The alphabet shines and shifts in colour. The question asked at the first passage will now be whispered in the direction of the enchanted painting. If the answer is correct the left door opens and someone meets you, high up on the breath-taking ledge.
Little Toffle is just a child, but he still carries many passengers on his back. His job is to look after the new arrivals and show them their new home. Usually only one or two new arrivals come at the same time so his full capacity is rarely used.  Toffle can find his way to places no one else can and by the time you have passed all the twelve islands, no one can remember the journey to the first island.

One of the most important things in this world is to find a friend with wings. For some this takes many years and for others, the friend appears immediately. This faithful companion allows you to travel between the different floating islands. On the first island – where the great oak’s tangle of roots is clear to see and blocks the view of the more distant islands – on this island, everyone is born with wings.

Alice in the moon is certainly solitary, but her task is the most important of all.  The Land in the Sky is a well-guarded secret and must remain so. When you’ve finally found your way here, there’s no way back and Alice sees all from her perch atop the moon that never wanes.

Sconce Island is the lungs of this world. This is where Charlie lives. The island lies at the furthest point away from the entrance to the Land in the Sky. It has both tropical and arctic weather conditions and you can visit every season of the year by wandering its enchanted paths. Charlie knows every nook and cranny on the island.

Vera is who you come to for advice. If you’re feeling afraid or lonely, or when, sooner or later, you start missing something or someone from the other side. Vera has her own island. Where she lives alone with her flowers. She lives on Knowledge Island and knows about everyone who lives in the Land in the Sky.

Scandinavian Christmas Wreaths

Some gorgeous contemporary Brass Rings have arrived in the store and I can't wait to style them for Christmas.

An advent wreath is very much part of my Danish Christmas tradition and is essential to the create jule hygge leading up to Christmas.

In Denmark we begin Christmas with the Advent wreath. The wreath has four candles, and on the first Sunday leading up to Christmas one candle is lit,  followed by another one the following  Sunday. Only on the fourth  and final day of Advent all candles will be lit. Traditionally the Advent wreath is made out of fine spruce twigs and cuttings, often decorated with red berries and spruce cones, white candles and red ribbons for attaching the wreath to the ceiling. Lately the wreath has been given a contemporary update as seen here with our Strups Brass Rings.

Circus Mighetto Has Come To Town.

Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, welcome to Circus Mighetto! A universe of fantasy, mystery and watercolours.

Let the magic begin...

The Flying Carnival Nobody lives in the flying tent in the clouds. At least that's what people say. At night, the tent sparkles and shines and sometimes it seems as though the sky and the tent are speaking their very own language. No one knows how to control the flying tent, nor what it's purpose is, but rumour has it that all the magic in the circus originates from it…
Our Dear Elephant. When this highly unusual baby elephant was born, he was rejected by the flock. He had strange bumps on his back, which many elephant years later turned out to be amazing wings. Magic wings that offered weightlessness and freedom. All of a sudden, the elephant was offered a place in the flock again, but he chose to stay with his new family. At the circus.

Meet Miss Gertrude  who is no large person. In fact, Gertrude is so tiny she sleeps in the tulle of a tutu. She works in the costume department, but due to her diminutive size she is struggling to carry large bolts of fabric and lift heavy scissors. Without using magic, that is. Luckily, she is good at magic, and finds that it can solve just about any problem. Gertrude creates perfect costumes and props for the circus with seemingly endless imagination.

Dear Lion At a fairly early age, the little lion grew a magnificent, flowing mane, with lots of shiny, golden hair that billowed in the wind. Because thick, beautiful hair looks kind of funny on a little girl, the flock decided she was simply too odd and dropped her off at the doorstep of the magic circus. Now she is the king of the circus and is happy and proud to show off her magnificent, glimmering hairstyle. Mr Otis was once an abandoned, little boy. No one had ever seen his parents, and he often woke up without a roof over his head. Otis' childhood could have been a very sad affair, had it not been for the circus. The circus saved his life. Well, maybe not the circus itself so much as friends, a feeling of solidarity and learning how to use his magical wings.

Miss Luca was born into the circus. She often slept with the lions and played with the elephants as if they were siblings. Which, in a sense, they were. Lion siblings. She can talk to all the animals, and they can talk to her. Luca is the circus director, and there it so much power in her voice that she command the audience's attention without even trying…

Moebe Simply Danish

At MOEBE they like to keep things simple and focus on the essentials in design. And this is just the way we like it at Skandivis too...

MOEBE frameless mirror minimal design and super elegant.

The MOEBE frames are unique in that they are not just for framing the traditional way. But by placing plants and other treasure between the two panels of acrylic glass they make very pretty display units too.

The MOEBE "Pinch" is is made from two beautiful pieces of wood and an elastic band! Simplicity at its best. Use them to display and hang wall art or simply use them as a desk organiser to keep all those papers in one place.
